Santa Clara

Santa Clara, the capital province of Villa Clara, is located in the central region of the Island. The village was founded in 1689 by a group of emigrants that were escaping from the pirate attacks in Remedios. Yet, over a century later, the region became so developed that was declared the capital city.

Nowadays, Santa Clara is a city with a great importance for the economic growth of the country. Additionally, the place is very renown regarding cultural development. Still, the distinctive feature of the place is its undeniable link to the history of Cuba.

Accommodation

The city offers a lot of lodgment alternatives that differ in location and price ranges.

Among the top accommodation choices one can find city hotels. These facilities are mostly structured in a colonial style and provide clients with a wide variety of options during their sojourn.

On the other hand, it is also possible to stay in a “casa particular”. The city welcomes its visitors with lovely bed and breakfast services that will allow you to interact with the local population and enjoy a warm environment.

What to do in Santa Clara?

Santa Clara is a beautiful city surrounded by some classic buildings in the colonial area. Undoubtedly you will be delighted in a walk through its squares and boulevard.

However, the distinctive feature of the city is its undeniable link to history. Santa Clara is immediately connected to the Cuban revolutionary war by Ernesto “Che” Guevara. The city exposes some historical places and monuments such as the monument to the assault to the armored train derailed during the Battle of Santa Clara. Another astonishing place is the “Che” Guevara Mausoleum, a memorial museum and an sculptural complex where the remains of Ernesto “Che” Guevara rest along with his fellow Cuban rebels.

Even when the city is very quiet, there are some particular spots where you can get all the silence and peace you are looking for. For example, La Loma del Capiro is a high peak of 18 meters above sea level, with great importance in the history of Cuba. It also offers a great panoramic view of the city.

Access

The city offers the International Airport Abel Santamaría that handles domestic and international flights, mostly from Europe, Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. Moreover, thanks to its geographical position, the place is pretty reachable by land. Visitors can come to the city by bus, taxi or in a rental car.

In short, Santa Clara is a rather modern city that played an essential role in the history of the country during the 50s. Likewise it represents an excellent alternative to enjoy some peace and tranquility while interacting with the local population. Please, contact us to fully enjoy the experience!
